'Ren Ri'

Today is the seventh day of CNY, also known as 'ren ri' or everybody birthday. So, usually on this day, family and friends will gather together to 'lo hei'. Almost every yr, i will lo yee shang with my family on this day, but this yr, we are all back in uni so instead of 'lo-ing' with my family, almost all the Chinese along with some other non- Chinese in my class gather together in the anatomy museum after class to lo yeeshang. haha..

The guys bought those instant-ready-to-eat yee shang fr Giant but the main ingredient in an yee shang, which are the raw strips of fish (usually salmons) are missing. Yee shang is actually a Chinese-style raw fish salad and the original dish uses raw mackerel but due to popular demands, salmons now replace the mackerels. The strips of raw fish, along with shredded vegetables and a variety of sauce and other condiments are being toss as high as it is possible into the air with chopsticks while auspicious wishes are being said out loud.

We tossed and we tossed and we kinda messed up the place, but we all had a good time laughing and of course eating together on this happy auspicious day! :)

Yee shang - considered a symbol of abundance, prosperity and vigor.
