Halloween

Happy Halloween everyone. It's a little too bad there's no trick or treat nor dressing up in this part of the world I'm now. Instead it will be the usual clinic sessions and lectures. Talk about a medical student life. But nonetheless, since vampires are the in thing now, i decided to dress up PS-ed myself into a vampire too to just get into the Halloween mood. Now do i look like part of the Cullen's family? hehe.  :) ( Pls excuse the poor PS-ed skill.. im still a newbie just learning :D)
Just for the fun of it, here's a normal pic of mua before i became part of the Cullen's clan :)

Do have fun treat or tricking the rest of you. More posts coming up soon. Do stay tune. :)

Kuantan Food Hunt

After our very satisfying brekkie at Sungai Lembing, we head on to Kuantan for our movie marathon and of course, food. I wasn't that hungry honestly, but i guess when you are traveling with 4 big guys with high metabolic rate, you just can't escape on hunting for the best food around; from chicken rice to shark and satay. After purchasing our movie tickets, (The Other Guys and Red. Btw, Red is just awesome. Although the plot is nothing new, but it's def a good slapstick comedy movie that kept us entertained throughout. Bruce Willis, altho promoted to the 'grandpa' level is still as Die Hard as ever) it's time for lunch. We wanted to try something local, but not those that we had already tried during our previous trip to Kuantan, so after a quick google on my phone, we found this recommended shop. ( I don't subscribe to any plans so it's RM 5 for one day of internet from Digi.. not very cheap but it's really useful to have internet especially while traveling in not so familiar places)

Lunch :

Chicken rice! hehe. There's actually quite a few recommendations that popped up on google but in the end we all voted for chicken rice. This chicken rice shop is said to be the best in Kuantan and according to a newspaper article in the shop, it was once awarded the 2nd best chicken rice shop in the whole of Malaysia. Wow, impressive no? We shall find out soon how good they really are in comparison with our dearest Chuan Kee in Kuala Terengganu where some claim is the origin of all Hainanese chicken rice in Malaysia.

The chicken - in my personal opinion i think the roasted chicken are not really tender. It's kinda hard actually and it's not that ripe (can still see blood streaks). And it's also pretty salty.
The rice - I kinda like the rice for it's fragrant ginger-aroma taste. Oh, and i like the soup too.
They also have curry wild boar. Erm, im not a fan of wild boar, so the only thing i ate are the potatoes.

Overall, it's not super good but at least it is pretty okay. Quite worth a visit for something local in Kuantan.

Dinner :

After our movies, we were supposed to look for this seafood restaurant at Padang Lalang but alas, after we reached Padang Lalang, some of the locals told us that the seafood restaurant had moved to another area. Hence we settled for this Chinese restaurant also at Padang Lalang called Mei Hiong (which is also endorsed by 8TV Ho Chak). The specialty of this restaurant is that they sells shark meat and steam stingray! I had been playing Hungry Shark a lot on my phone lately whenever i have to wait ; wait for food, wait for lecturer, wait for specialist, wait for DD, wait for anyone, wait for anything), so now it's us eating the shark and not the other way round. haha.

Personally, i don't encouraged the consumption of shark fins and rightfully speaking, shark meats too. But there are few hundred species of sharks and the ones that are endangered/ threatened and currently being protected are only about 17 species and are mainly those hunt in the deep sea for their fins. But sharks sold in restaurant like this are mainly the small species ones that are not in the list of protected species.
Braised pork with salted fish
Fried chicken with honey
Claypot beancurds/ taufu
Fried potato leaves with belacan
Lastly, the chef's recommendation - Stir Fried Chilli Sharks meat. If you ask me, i think it tasted like any other fish. A bit more tender and juicy but does not warrant the encouragement of mass sharks consumption.
Overall, the food are all pretty decent and tasty. I rate it like 7.5/10. haha. Besides, if you are interested to try something a little unusual like sharks and steam stingray, then this will be the place to go. The portion is a bit small though (which gave us excuses to go for supper. hehe)

Supper :

The perfect way to end the day will be having some real good satay for supper. It's not like KT do not have satay, its just that there are no real good ones. But Zul Satay of Kuantan is definitely one strong contender to Kajang Restaurant Malaysia satay (my no.1 satay). Satay is a local Malay dish where meat are put on skewers and barbequed. We all agreed that the satay there was really really good. Super yum.
Side dishes that compliment satay well - Nasi himpit/ ketupat with cucmbers and onions. RM 2 per plate and RM 1 for a plate of cucumbers and onions.
Aside from the normal chicken and beef satay, they also have rabbit, deer and mutton satay. And this is the 'bebola ikan'/ fishballs satay which is really keopok lekor moulded into round shapes put on skewers. Nothing much to shout about this as it felt like eating keropok lekor balls only. RM 0.40 per stick.
These carcinogenic chicken satay is awe the awesome. Super good. I really love how the whole stick is nothing but chunky meat and no fat. The meat is simply good and barbequed really well. RM 0.60 a stick.
And of course, no good satay will be complete without good groundnut sauce. Their sauce is the bomb. It just makes the satay perfect. Love how it is thick just right, spicy just right and sweeten just right. It's so good i think i can literally drink them.
They also got nasi lemak which is pretty delicious too. RM 2.50 per plate.
Enjoying a satay moment

I think among everything we ate that day, i love my breakfast and supper the most.. hahaha. It was definitely a good destressing road trip. On top of that, we have a super good meal to start the day and super good food to end the day. Perfect. :)

Of course, Kuantan has many more good food to be explore but well, that will leaves more reason for visits next time, no? :)

Sungai Lembing Tomato Mee and Cheapest Yong Tau Foos

As it was the end of our super hectic Surgery rotation last weekend, me and the big 4 decided to do some destressing by making a road trip down to Kuantan. We decided to do a little detour to Sungai Lembing for our breakfast as Sungai Lembing is just about 30 km (30-45 minutes) from Kuantan town.

This time round, our intention was purely to go indulge in those huge cheap bowls of yong tau foos and home-made 'shan shui' (mountain water) noodles and beancurds/taufu. Hence, we only set off at about 6am from KT and reached about 8.30am. Apparently everyone at Sungai Lembing practices 'early to bed, early to rise, makes a man healthy and wise'. It's like by 8.30am, the famous morning market in the middle of the town where the most famous mountain water noodles are sold were already beginning to empty out. Those who climb Panaroma Hill for the sunrise had long long time ago descended and finished their breakfast. We had wanted to go to the Rainbow waterfall (as we miss out on that the last time) but to catch the rainbow means we will have to be at Sungai Lembing by 6.30am. Everything starts real early here.

Aside from the famous noodles and beancurds, the other famous food here is the tomato mee or ketchup mee. It's really not as simple as just frying the noodles in tomato sauce. Maybe it's due to the texture of the noodles, maybe it's due to the fact the ingredient in making the noodles are different (maybe mountain water really makes a different?hehe) or maybe it's just because the cook is good, but whatever it is, the tomato mee is awe the awesome as well.

The stall that we tried the previous time which is supposedly the most famous one was not open that day. But we found this other stall at the back of the market that also sells the same stuff - 'shan shui' noodles with yong tau foo and beancurds. And similarly, you can have it dry, with soup or with curry. Tastewise, i find this stall pretty good too. Not much difference from the previous one. And pricewise, same CHEAP and portion same HUGE. FFTT said the curry here is even better than Hoi Yin!
Ta-da - the very the famous fresh home-made mountain water/shan shui noodle in kicap with my super the duper huge bowl of yong tau foo
This is just like the tip of the iceberg. There are still many items hidden below. I think there's easily 7-10 varieties of yong tau foo, each of them huge and fat. And guess what? This bowl of yong tau foo and noodle only cost me RM 3.70. Like cheapest yong tau foo ever can.
Glistening mountain water/shan shui beancurds/taufu. The sticky gravy is the bomb. Super good ok when you eat the beancurd with the gravy. And the beancurd is so super fresh and smooth. Each piece of this beancurd (with meat in between them) is only RM 0.60. Cheap till can die.
The tomato mee. It's just as good as the rest of the stuff. Yum.

The stall that sells us the noodles and yong tau foo also sells char siew (bbq pork) and it's also like the cheapest char siew ever. I know i keep emphasizing on the word 'cheap' but i cant help it cuz it's really really cheap. I mean seriously tell me where else in Malaysia sells such awesome food this cheap. I want to know also. :p Sorry, forgot to take pic of that but it's basically a bowl of freshly cut char siew (bowl the size of a small rice in a Chinese restaurant) for only RM 2. I'm quite particular about my char siew so despite it being really fresh, i find it so-so only. But the big 4 all complimented it and they claimed it was really good.

As the other 3 guys have never been to Sungai Lembing, DD played the tour guide and brought them around the small tranquil town for some 'shopping'. (like buying home 1kg of the famous Sungai Lembing noodle and coconut biscuits).
The very cute petrol station at Sungai Lembing. Don't play play, it's Shell k.
The big 4 and mua. I think everyone still got the sleepy face.. hahaha
At the hanging bridge of Sungai Lembing

It was definitely worth the detour to Sungai Lembing for breakfast because our stomach was definitely one happy stomach that morning with so so much of awe the awesome food swimming in them. I cant help but wonder what will happen to this little tranquil, unique town once all the older generation pass on. I hope they continue to maintain their uniqueness, tranquilness and cheapness cuz i think those are major attractions in themselves. :)

Adv : Xplay Shout!

Do you have passion for music?

Do you have the crave for fantabulous parties?

Yes? Yes?

Wouldnt it be great to combine both good music and awesome party together?

If you ask me, my answer is definitely yes, yes and yes to all three questions. And that's why, im pretty excited when i hear about XPLAY. More so when there are invites to be given out. *gleeful*

Well if this is the first time you are hearing of Xplay, basically Xplay is a series of music events nationwide that brings various genres of music together.

Besides, they will only bring in some of the best local and international DJs to rock your night away.

Honestly speaking, i have never been to any Xplay parties before. Turtle land clearly lack things like that. But one of my friend who had attended an Xplay party once in KL told me that it was an absolute memorable and extraordinary party with beyond imagination line-ups and ground breaking music.
And in conjunction with the Shout! Awards, which is an entertainment award show created to celebrate and support our very own entertainment industry recognizing people of music, television, film, radio and the entertainment industry as a wholeXpax is bringing you XPLAY SHOUT!.

This is just getting more and more exciting. Xplay Shout! is the pre-show party for the Shout! Awards and it will be happening on the 13th of November 2010 at The Library e@curve to celebrate the nominees for the awards. Besides performances by the 2009 Shout! Award winners and DJs, party goers will also get to mingle with the Mobile Content Award 2010 nominees at the party.

You know it's definitely gonna be an awesome party when you have line ups such as :
Disagree - Disagree embodies the energy of Alternative Rock, delivering unique sounds that are distinctive, straightforward and yet seemingly radio friendly. Their hit numbers such as ‘Crumbs’, ‘Scarecrow Adam’, and ‘Suicide Note’, have substantiated high recognition in the Malaysian English music scene. By delivering music which that is more mature and intensely melodic, Disagree continues to be the rage in the alternative scene.

Hujan
Mizz Nina -  The reigning queen of Malaysian hip hop scene shot to fame as part of the seminal Malaysian hip hop group, the Teh Tarik Crew, earning two AIM nominations for the group’s full-length album “How’s The Level?” in the process. Her growing repertoire of music has exposed the public to an unprecedented level. Lending her unique take on hip hop artistry, MizzNina continues to deliver a resounding display every time she’s on the mic or on the decks and is definitely a force to be reckoned with in the local entertainment industry.
DJ Ash - Originally hailing from Malaysia, Ash started DJ-ing in 2004 in Australia. Since then, he has played most of Melbourne’s finest nightclubs and bars. He revolutionized and continues to lead the Mash-Up scene in Melbourne with his residency at the famed Seven Nightclub’s Sideroom, Melbourne’s Mash-Up scene by unleashing his creativity through mixing assorted music genres in his set. Ash has also played in special events such for Akon, T-Pain, MC Jin, MizzNina, Too Phat’s Joe Flizzow Montell Jordan, Justin Timberlake’s dancers and Australian Idol showcase.
The best part is, it is so easy to get exclusive invites to this fantastic party. All you need to do is go to the Xpax facebook page, join as a fan, click on the 'Xplay' tab and register for a free invitation. The 1st 150 customers to register on Xpax Facebook will get free drinks as well! (If you are an Xpax or U.O.X. member, you’ll get 2 drinks!).

Take 1,2,3,4

Say yay yay yay cuz it's the end of my Surgery rotation today. :) Surgery rotation is definitely one of the most hectic rotation. *letting off sigh of relieve now*

Anyways, i realized i have a habit of taking double, triple, quadruple and even quintuples shots of a same scene (food etc) which might be probably why we managed to end up with more than 6000 pictures from a 10 days trip. Well other than those once-in-a-lifetime or blue moon moments, i truly advocate for at least a double shots for everything else. I will tell you why in a bit. (i mean for people like me who are not pro photographers)

I know sometimes it can get really annoying especially when we felt like we had been posing and smiling for eternity for the camera so once the photographer snap, we cant wait to 'unpose' and just 'relax' (flashing that million dollar smile to the camera for a period of time can get daunting). Then the photographer ask for another shot, we pose and smile again but the photographer takes time to adjust the camera, lightings, angle bla bla bla which seems like forever before he/she snaps. In normal circumstances (photoshoot and camwhoring excluded), i think most people will only be patient enough to pose twice in the same exact pose for the camera. And from what i observe, by the 3rd request, most people will just tell you 'It's ok. We dont want to take anymore. We had two shots already.' I mean fair enough, for certain people who are camera shy, two shots might be a lot already.

So why the need to take more than one shot of the exact same thing and if possible similar pose too? The reason is because we are not pro like the pros, we cannot assure that every single photo that we take will turn out to be ok. I mean i dont think anyone can really assure that each shot they take will be a perfect (perfect here means like not blur or if shot of people then everyone shd at least be seen or looking at the camera with eyes OPEN) one rite? There's always a high possibility of a photo turning out to be blur, someone not ready, someone closing their eyes, over expose, under expose or sometimes even with a thumb or finger shadow (all these are very common when you are handling a camera you are unfamiliar with or someone else's is handling your camera) on the first shot.

These photos are clear cuz there are taken with Mr. Self-timer on tripod but you will see what i mean. :)

Take 1 - Note those that have their heads circle in red. They are either partially block, not looking at the camera or have their eyes close
Take 2 - Better but oops, K's eyes are close this time
Take 3 - Arghhhh... now H is the one not looking at the camera
Take 4- DD where are you?????

So you see, even after four shots, there's not one perfect, nice group picture where everyone can be seen with their eyes open. I may be anal bout this but that's because i believe that one of the reason we take photos is because we want to freeze up this part of our memory, so why bother taking photos if you are gonna do it haphazardly. I mean yes, it's sometimes amusing to look back at the photos and see the 'defects' and laugh it over, but im sure we also want at least some nice ones for keepsake.

Luckily, thanks to my very wonderful current assistant, PS, we can has a perfect group photo too! :) (but no, that does not mean we shd rely on PS for perfect group pics all the time. Cuz not all photos can be PS so perfectly too)
A perfect group picture means everyone can be seen clearly, eyes open and ready for the camera
Take 1 with Dr.M - Spot the spoiler(s).. hahaha
Because we had a super long prolong bst one of the days, Prof K generously bought us breakfast at KFC. This is the second shot actualy. The first shot was blur.
With one of my fav hosp specialist. This is also a second shot.

So yeah, the next time we hang out and if i ask for more than one shot, i hope you guys will be patient with me. hehe. It's all for the sake of a good photo. *wink*  :)

Dress, Doll, Snap

Wow, i have been totally missing from this space for the past one week. So, hello. I'm still alive. Just that being in Surgery rotation is totally drowning me with long days at hospital and campus. I don't even have time to go on skype or webcam with my mum, whats more updating here. But anyway, the weekend is here, so before i continue being drown in case write up and presentation and preparation for eop next week, here's a little update with nice pictures. :)

Honestly, i do like to dress and doll up and make myself look pretty. I mean who doesnt right? But living in KT with my life being such a routine, most times im just pretty much uninspired to spend time dressing and dolling up. After all, i dont see the point. It takes time to actually make up and stuff and then to remove the make up. Besides, walking around town dress up to the nines certainly will make you stick out like a sore thumb. So other than if we are going to snap away (oh that certainly makes a difference), you can catch me around in my baby T and shorts most times.

Hence last Sat, when my beloved Sarah told us to get dress and doll up for the night, i was more than happy to oblige. Suddenly i felt all the inspiration to go dig up my dresses and make ups. Together with both of my fabulous darlings and Lou, we went to Ri Yatz. It is definitely one very awesome and memorable night. I had so much fun that night. Thank you darlings. <3 It is actually the first time that all 3 of us went out dress and doll up together. And Ri Yatz has such nice ambience and lightings and we can snap all we want without anyone interfering. :)

Love forever <3

I decided not to bring my camera along that night, so all pictures are from Lou and Siew's gorgeous camera. I took the liberty to edit them, hope you guys dont mind. :)

PS : Siew has more pics of that night on her blog, so you guys can hop over her blog to see them too. :)
